M2i is proud to announce that on 22 June 2023, Björn Nijhuis defended his PhD thesis (Efficient Thermomechanical Modelling of Large-Scale Metal Additive Manufacturing). Björn’s project was part of the Perspective programme Aim2XL, and he obtained his PhD cum laude!!

‘Last Thursday, I successfully defended my thesis and was awarded my doctorate degree cum laude. The defence ceremony certainly was a memorable milestone after four interesting, but intense, years of research! I would like to thank my (co)promotors Bert Geijselaers, Jos Havinga and Ton van den Boogaard for their guidance and assistance during my PhD. A word of thanks also goes out to the Materials innovation institute M2i for the efforts spent on coordinating the AiM2XL programme of which my research was part.
The coming year, I will continue my academic career as a postdoctoral researcher in the Chair of Nonlinear Solid Mechanics at the University of Twente. I am looking forward to the challenges ahead!’
