Smart*Light Workshop: Shedding Smart*Light on materials
The Interreg Vlaanderen-Nederland project Smart*Light is coming to an end. The project, started in 2018, was designed to develop a revolutionary compact and movable tuneable X-ray source with high brilliance for a great number of applications, from complex materials characterizations to analysis of art works and advanced medical research.

MES 2023 – The Benelux knowledge- and networking event on sustainable materials and surface techniques
On 15 Juni 2023 (9.00-18.00 hrs) the MES 2023 will take place at NH Conference Centre Koningshof in Veldhoven and M2i’s Program Director will be one of the speakers. His presentation will be about the modelling and simulating of materials.
PhD defense Tijmen Vermeij: cum laude!
M2i is proud to announce that on 21 April 2023, Tijmen Vermeij defended his PhD thesis “High-Resolution Identification of Plasticity and Damage in Multi-Phase Steels”. The project was a collaboration between M2i, NWO, TATA Steel, and TU Eindhoven. Tijmen obtained his PhD cum laude!

Micky Adriaansens, Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, visited the AiM2XL consortium on 20th March, 2023 at RAMLAB in Rotterdam to learn more about the AiM2XL program. “Additive Manufacturing of Large-scale components” (AiM2XL) is a Perspectief program that started five years ago with funding from the Dutch Research Council TTW-NWO and is led by prof. Fred van Keulen from TU Delft.

Interview with the winners of the Grade2XL Additive Manufacturing Challenge 2022
The winners of the 2022 edition of the Grade2XL Additive Manufacturing Challenge have been revealed during the M2i Meeting Materials conference held in Noordwijkerhout (NL) on 13 december 2023. The winning team is coming from IRT Jules Verne, a research institute based in Nantes, France. The winners were invited to the M2i conference to receive their prize, and got the chance to visit RAMLAB facilities and to initiate discussions with the team in charge of the manufacturing of their part.
Grade2XL AM Challenge – December 2022
During the annual Meeting Materials conference of 13 December 2022, organized by M2i, Grade2XL held its third open Additive Manufacturing Challenge. For the Grade2XL contest we challenged engineers and researchers to design a novel, multi-material product that can be printed with wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM). The expert jury had a tough job judging all the designs that were submitted.

New Perspectief Program Granted: DEPMAT
NWO granted the program Data Enhanced Physical models to reduce Materials use (DEPMAT) under the Perspectief call 2020. This 5-years research program will be led by Prof. dr. ir. Ton van den Boogaard of University of Twente and involves 3 technical universities in the Netherlands and 5 industrial partners. M2i will be responsible for the management of this program.
New Perspectief Program Granted: Circular Circuits
NWO granted the program Circular Circuits under the Perspectief call 2020. This 5-years research program will focus on the design of next generation electronics for a circular economy and be led by Prof. dr. Arnold Tukker of Leiden University. The project involves 11 universities and research institutes and 17 industrial partners. M2i will be responsible for the management of this program.
