Prof. dr. Maria Antonietta Loi will receive the ‘Physicaprijs 2018’ on 13 April at the annual conference FYSICA, where she will be a plenary speaker. Maria Loi will receive this prestigious prize for her innovative research on hybrid nano-materials.

In her research Maria Loi makes creative use of new combinations of materials that sometimes lead to new materials with surprising properties. An example is her recent discovery of a special hybrid perovskite that promises a higher output. These hybrid perovskites are crystals that can be used to make efficient solar cells or work in a X-ray detector.

Maria Loi is Cluster Leader of M2i cluster Functional Materials. She is Professor of Photophysics and Optoelectronics at the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials of the University of Groningen. In addition she is an associate editor of the Applied Physics Letters and is a member of the work-committee phenomenological physics of FOM.
