M2i organizes a Thematic Meeting ‘Towards the Circular Economy in the Metals’, the event will take place on 8 April 2025 in Delft.

The transition to a circular economy is one of the key elements for a sustainable future. In 2020, the EU implemented the new circular economy action plan to mitigate the impact on natural resources and support the 2050 climate neutrality target. The Dutch Nationaal Programma Circulaire Economie 2023 – 2030 aligns with this transition, setting clear targets for 2030, and the high-tech sector (HTSM) is actively adapting products and production processes to these new circular standards.

Materials are central to this transition, requiring advancements across several areas. Innovative material solutions reduce resource use, while designs for durability and ease of repair extend product lifetimes. Promoting modularity and ease of disassembly supports refurbishment and remanufacturing. Improved separation technologies and advanced recycling processes ensure efficient material recovery and high-quality retention of recycled materials.

In this thematic meeting, we will address the challenge posed by the circular transition in the metals sector. We will explore both a broader perspective and zoom in on current developments in the areas of recycling, re-use, and circular material design. During the day world-renowned researchers from academia, industry as well as a public body will share their vision and achievements on Circular Economy in Metals.
