The M2i and RDM will organize a workshop on June 18th in Rotterdam on ‘Composite-steel hybrid adhesive bonded joints in a marine environment’’. Organizations, academics, and students interested in this topic are welcome to attend.
Steel and composites can be bonded together using adhesives, forming a hybrid (steel-composite) joint. Despite of the many benefits of composite and hybrid joints, the lack of guidelines for approval and design has prevented their uptake by the maritime industry, limiting their usage to secondary structures. This is partly because the long term behaviour and failure of hybrid joints is not yet understood. The EU funded R&D project QUALIFY aims at filling his knowledge gap, enabling the development of such guidelines, with the objective to promote the use of hybrid joints in primary structures in a marine environment.
The workshop will focus on the achievements of the QUALIFY project so far, which includes a an ambitious experimental and simulation campaign. In addition, representatives from other relevant EU research projects, and stakeholders, will also present their results. Participants are encouraged to actively engage in the discussion with the speakers during and at the end of the event. For more information on the program, click here.
