NWO Applied and Engineering Sciences (NWO AES) has granted the M2i program “Additive Manufacturing for Extra Large Metal Components (AiM2XL) within the NWO Perspectief program.

The key objective of the program is to develop and implement the novel property-on-demand capability required to produce large-scale (1 to >10 meters) additively manufactured metal components for safety critical applications in a cost-effective manner. Over the next five years, M2i and NWO will work together with twenty companies and four universities. The aim of the program is to make a significant progress in the development of 3D printing technology (both wire and powder based).

Within the new program Aim2XL, M2i and NWO AES will collaborate with companies as RAMLAB, Allseas, Damen, Fokker Technologies Holding B.V., Heerema Fabrication Group, Huisman and Shell. The participating universities are Delft University of Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology, University of Twente and University of Groningen.

NWO AES and the companies involved are jointly contributing to the program budget of 4 million euros. Professor I.M. Richardson (Delft University of Technology) will be the scientific program leader and the program will run within the RAMLAB consortium.
