On 28 June, as part of the new human capital activities, M2i visited 15 chemistry higher level students of the International School of The Haque (ISTH). Sepideh Ghodrat, a PhD researcher at M2i informed the students about her research as well as her career steps within science and technology.  By visiting schools and by presenting fascinating innovations in the field of materials to the students audience, M2i aims at stimulating interest of young people in science and technology in general, and at increasing the awareness among students about the importance of advanced materials.

Before the start of the presentation, the contract between M2i and the International School of The Haque was signed. M2i and ISTH are now partners within the Jet-Net organization. Jet-Net – Youth and Technology Network Netherlands - is a joint venture between Dutch companies and pre-college schools in the Netherlands. Jet-Net companies help schools enhance the appeal of their science curriculum by using a great variety of activities and also allow students to gain a better understanding of their future career prospects in industry and technology. M2i joined Jet-Net as of January 2010.

During the presentation Sepideh explained why she choose a technical career, why she choose for a PhD research and in an understandable way, she explained her research activities. She is currently conducting research on “Thermo-mechanical fatigue of cast iron cylinder head” at the Technical University of Delft in the group of Material Science and Engineering (MSE), Departments of Microstructural Control in Metals (MCM) and Joining & Mechanical Behavior (JMB). The lively afternoon was closed by questions of the curious and enthusiastic students. The follow up of this first encounter will be in the fall when these students will visit the laboratories of the Technical University of Delft where M2i conducts many of her research activities.
