M2i makes materials innovation easy!
SMEs have a strong desire to develop new materials or to apply novel materials solutions. However, companies can be hesitant to start the development or implementation processes. The work required applying for subsidy, the administration, and the research itself can be a heavy burden for a small organization. Sometimes, you may wonder if the investment is worth the advantage of getting the results.
M2i makes material innovation accessible to SMEs. We do the research and the paperwork, and you get the results. M2i is there to help you. We organize two types of projects, often in collaboration with trade associations like FME-CWM, Metaalunie, FDP, BmS, and others:
Awareness Projects
In these projects we make new materials knowledge available through publications, seminars, workshops, meetings, etc. Materials technologies as laser welding, extrusion and casting of aluminium, laser cladding, adhesive bonding, composite technology, and surface treatment are only few of the subjects that are on the program.
SME cluster projects
In these projects, temporary clusters of SMEs are formed that together show an interest in a new technology, a materials problem, or a new product. A shared research program is defined and the research is performed by or under supervision of M2i. The participants get the results for only a small fraction of the project costs. Subjects range from metal injection moulding demonstrators to discrete element modelling of granular materials, and from finite element simulations of the forming process to thermographic detection of invisible holes. The projects are often performed in collaboration with TNO or NLR.
Other possibilities
SMEs have access to M2i’s research, facility sharing, and flying squad activities. For detailed information contact us or check our MKB pages (in Dutch).
