M2i organizes and performs projects, courses, and workshops to transfer materials technology to groups of SMEs.

By transfering available knowledge in the knowledge institutes and new knowledge generated in M2i's research program to SMEs, the innovative power of the Dutch economy will be strengthened.

Knowledge transfer
One of the key elements of the M2i innovation program is making material innovations accessible to SMEs. M2i actively stimulates the transfer to and application of existing knowledge by SMEs.

Knowledge transfer projects can be both linked to the M2i program and be more general in nature. The AIDA concept (Awareness, Interest, Desire and Action) is used in the selection of knowledge transfer projects. M2i distinguishes:

  • Awareness Projects (knowledge transfer through publications, seminars, workshops, meetings, etc.)
  • SME cluster projects.  Temporary clusters of SMEs are formed to develop insights and solutions in dedicated technologies or market applications.

M2i initiates (often with involvement of TNO and NLR) valorization projects with trade associations like FME-CWM, Metaalunie, FDP, BmS and others.
