Research projects

Research is done by M2i Ph.D students and M2i Postdocs on a wide variety of material innovation topics. All research projects are about doing good scientific research which can be transformed into material innovations for the industry and our society.

Research is carried out by M2i PhD and Post Doc researchers on a wide variety of material innovation topics. All research projects are about carrying out scientifically sound research which can be transformed into innovative materials for industry and society.

PhD research projects last four years, while Post Doc research projects can vary between one to three years. The research projects are pre-competitive in nature and generally aim for application between four and six years. One- or two-year Post Doc research projects are used to fill an industrial partner’s specific knowledge gap quickly or provide a scientific background for a material application problem.

All research projects are planned by and carried out in close consultation with one or more of M2i’s industrial partners. Each research project takes the materials innovation requirements of the industrial partners as its starting point, and the industrial partners participate in the research projects by means of progress meetings, working meetings, and so on. In many cases, the M2i researcher is working partly on the premises of the industrial partners in order to become acquainted with the materials applications, carry out part of the material tests, and work together with R&D department of the company. All this is to ensure that the scientific work done in the research projects will be made maximum use of in the product and process development teams of the industrial partners.
