At the core of M2i is the research program which covers a wide range of materials innovation themes. In 2011, over 130 M2i PhD and Post Doc researchers are working daily in the materials research groups of M2i’s 17 partner universities in the Netherlands and abroad. These researchers are exploring new areas in materials innovation in order to find solutions for the materials questions of M2i’s 33 industrial partners.
Wide range
A wide range of research is being carried out to serve the needs of M2i’s industrial partners in various sectors of business. Many cross-links exist between the research projects in different sectors. For instance, a research project into light-weight structures for use in aerospace may face the same scientific issues as a research project working on the light-weight structures used in wind energy. These projects could benefit from sharing information and working together to solve the related scientific questions.
Technology themes
M2i research projects which involve related scientific issues are clustered into ten technology themes. These research themes give a good overview of the broad scope of materials innovation within M2i’s research programme.
